Here are answers to some common questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I Exchange a tank that I purchased from another provider?

YES - As long as it is in a usable condition with the proper valve we will accept any propane cylinder for exchange.

  • Are there exchange requirements? Can I exchange an old tank?

The tank must be within the 12-year original manufacturers date or properly recertified.  The tank will also need to have an OPD valve or triangular shaped handle.  We will recertify and dispose of tanks for a separate fee.

You will then need to purchase a new tank with propane.

  • Do I need to be home to receive a delivery?

No need to be home for delivery.  You will provide instructions on where you leave your spare tank to help the delivery technician make the exchange or delivery efficiently. We are unable to provide delivery time windows, so it is important that you leave the tank in a secure location our driver can access, by your driveway, to the left or right of your garage or on your front porch by your doorcam.  We will ask you to choose where you will be leaving your tank in the check-out process (just like package deliveries)

  • Is your delivery contactless?

Yes! Typically, all of our deliveries are contactless unless our driver runs into a problem locating your tank, or if there is an issue with your delivery and we would have to come and remedy that issue.

  • Can I schedule a time to meet my delivery technician for the service?

Because of the number of deliveries and issues that may come up throughout the day we do not schedule appointments or delivery windows. We ask that exchange tanks be left in the area specified during the check-out process so that our driver can complete the delivery as efficiently as possible.

For commercial or larger requests please call the office (913) 568-2647.  You can also send an email to tlitten@propanekc.com for these questions.

  • Can you deliver if my tank is not accessible from the outside of the house?

Our drivers are not allowed to enter a customer's home, and we cannot leave a tank inside. We do offer a couple choices for accessible places to leave your tank, and we hope that we can work this out with you.

  • What are your delivery days and times?

It varies based on our delivery areas, but generally we deliver 5 days a week, from dawn to dusk. We start our days early to get you your tanks as early as we can. To help us avoid having a missed delivery, please have your tanks out by 7 am on the day of the exchange.

Thanks for trying us out please take the time to let us know what we can do better or add to our service offering!

  • How does your driver know where to find my empty tank?

You will provide a location during the order process.

  • What are your delivery day options?

Currently delivery options are 24-48 hours.  We schedule orders daily and get them out as soon as possible the following day.  We deliver residential orders M-F, starting at 7AM

We will roll out same day and express delivery options as we grow our customer base. We hope to get there very soon.

  • I forgot to leave my tank out. What should I do?

Please contact us at (913) 568-2647 to reschedule your delivery. The earlier you call, the better, so we don’t have to drive out to your address. Depending on the timing, we may work with you to reschedule for another day.

  • Can you connect/disconnect the propane tank to my grill?

Our focus is bringing you good quality full tanks right to your home or place of business. We plan on adding some additional services in the future, but we do not offer connection or disconnection services at this time.

  • What is full 20lbs vs 15lbs?

We fill propane cylinders to the allowable 20lbs compared to most retailers that will fill tanks to 15lbs or 17lbs.

KC Propane Exchange Service & Requirements

  • Is there any ongoing commitment to trying out KC Propane?

No, there is no subscription or commitment to use us. We strive to provide convenience and more propane so you'll buy from us without having to commit to anything!

Once you’ve set up an account, your next order is easier because your account has been setup!

  • What payment methods are accepted?

All major CC's and ACH (much lower fees for us)

  • What kind of tank connections do you support?

Cynch only sells Type 1 OPD tanks. We no longer carry Type 2 tanks. Type 2 tanks are very rare as grills requiring these tanks are no longer being manufactured. If you do have a Type 2 grill, you can purchase an adapter online.

  • Which connection type do I have?

A Type 1 valve is attached to a hose from your grill with a large plastic screw connection that must be completely tightened to engage the valve and operate properly. A type 1 valve also has an internal threaded fitting that allows the use of a POL connection in addition to the external plastic threaded fitting. A Type 2 connection is a spring-loaded connection; a metal ring on the tank slides back to engage the hose and snaps back into place to ensure a tight connection.

Propane Tanks

  • What is the difference between an EXCHANGE TANK and a SPARE TANK?

An EXCHANGE TANK is the when you give us your used tank in exchange for a KC Propane tank containing a net weight of 20lbs of propane. The price for an EXCHANGE TANK is lower, since we exchange your used tank with ours. A SPARE TANK is just that - a spare, ready to use tank that you purchase without exchanging a used tank. Since you are buying both the propane and the steel cylinder, the price is higher than an exchange purchase.

  • How much propane do I have in my tank?

We provide the full amount of propane allowed in the tanks.  Tanks left in the sun or exposed to heat can cause expansion inside the release and then a corresponding release of propane to relieve pressure in the tanks. Make sure tanks are properly stored in a shaded, cool, and safe place.  Also, make sure when turning on for the first time the appliances valves are turned off before you open the handle one full turn.  You do not want to open the handle all the way until stops.

This is from our competitions website: "Our tanks are inspected and precision-filled with 15 pounds of propane, which is the industry standard and is the same as cylinders sold at nearly all large retail outlets."

Buy from us and get more bang for your buck!

  • Do you handle tank removal?

We do pick up unwanted used propane tanks for a $25 fee. We have time in picking up the tank, space used to haul tanks, and labor cost to remove the valves from tanks before proper disposal.

We would appreciate the opportunity to dispose of these tanks properly!  Explosions in landfills and issues with bad tanks at homes are a real thing!

Propane Safety

  • What do I do if I smell gas or suspect a leak?

If you smell gas, and it is safe to do so, turn off the cylinder valve, turning it to the right (clockwise). If you are unable to turn off the valve, immediately leave the area and dial 911 or call your local fire department. Before you use the grill again, have a qualified service technician inspect your grill and cylinder.

  • How do you store a spare tank?

Storing your propane tank safely is necessary.  Freezing temperatures do not pose a problem for propane; propane is -40 inside the cylinder.  And propane will not go stale or oxidize in the tank it is supplied to you in.  However, sun and heat pose a risk as well as ignition sources like electricy, air conditioning units, etc.  You need to find a shaded or covered location outside your house away from any ignition sources.

  • Are there considerations for propane with extreme weather?

In extreme heat, which often accompanies drought conditions, make sure the 10 foot radius around your propane tank and your propane grill is clear of flammable materials. Remove any debris that is combustible or easily ignited, including leaves, brush, any vegetation, and rags.

Floods can move, shift, or damage gas lines and tanks.

High winds and hail—often accompanying hurricanes, tornadoes, and winter storms—can move, shift, or damage gas lines and tanks. If your propane tank becomes dislodged from its service line, it’s likely to be leaking gas out into the surrounding area. A spark from a fallen power line or other ignition source could pose a danger to anyone nearby. Debris and water can find their way inside regulators and controls, causing potential safety issues. If you have any doubts about your safety, leave the area immediately, alert AmeriGas or your utility company, and have your property inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before re-entering.
